When you’re running a clean room oven, hitting your temperature targets is only half the battle. The real headache starts if your infrared heaters aren’t electrically isolated from the chassis. Think about it: one tiny bit of leakage current or a random insulation failure, and you’ve just ruined a whole batch of components. Or worse, you’ve tripped a breaker that shuts down the entire facility. That’s a day nobody wants to have.
Why we test every single tube
Some people just sample a few pieces from a batch and call it a day. We don’t do that. Every single lamp tube we make goes through a high-voltage withstand test (HiPot) and an insulation resistance check before it even touches a shipping box. We push the voltage way past the normal operating limits. Why? Because we want to force any hidden flaws in the quartz or the electrode seals to show themselves now, rather than later. If there’s a microscopic crack or a messy seal, it’ll arc during our test. It’s a lot better for it to fail on our floor than to burn out inside your oven.
Dealing with leakage in tight spaces
Clean room heaters usually pack a lot of power into a very small footprint. When you’re wiring these things up, the insulation between the heating element and the support frame is the only thing standing between you and a short circuit. We make sure that insulation resistance is rock solid. This keeps current leakage from creeping in and messing with your sensitive clean room sensors. It just keeps things quiet and stable.
A quick reality check
Now, here is the thing: high-voltage testing makes a tube safe, but it doesn’t make it bulletproof. You still have to deal with the way quartz expands when it gets hot. If your mounting clips are clamped down too tight, the tube is going to stress and eventually crack—no matter how perfect the insulation test was. Give your tubes some room to breathe. Let them grow linearly as they heat up, and you’ll avoid those frustrating mechanical failures. We’ll send over the test data for every unit we ship.
