We’ve all been there. You step out of a hot shower into a freezing bathroom, and you flip on those old-school light-warmers. You wait. And wait. Maybe you get a little bit of heat, but half the time the bulbs are already burnt out because the humidity just eats them alive. It’s a frustrating way to start the morning. That’s why we’ve been moving toward high-waterproof infrared (IR) heaters built right into the mirrors. It just makes more sense. The difference is how you actually feel the heat. Most old lamps try to heat up the air in the room. That takes forever. Infrared is different. It sends out waves that hit your skin directly. It’s like stepping into a patch of sunlight on a cold day. You feel it instantly. Plus, because we put them in the mirror, they keep the glass from fogging up while keeping you warm. Dealing with the “wet zone” Bathrooms are brutal on electronics. Between the steam and the occasional splash, most heaters just give up after a few months. We fix this by using high IP ratings—which is basically just a fancy way of saying we seal the guts of the machine. We use heavy-duty gaskets and housings that don’t rust, so water can’t sneak in and fry the terminals. It stays safe, and it actually lasts. One quick heads-up: these pull more power than a tiny light bulb. Just make sure your circuit breaker can handle the wattage so you aren’t flipping a switch in the dark. The tricky part of the build Fitting a heater into a mirror isn’t easy. Space is tight. We use quartz glass tubes because they can handle the heat without cracking, even if a cold drop of water hits them. The real trick is the balance. We want it warm enough to keep you cozy, but not so hot that it warps the mirror glass. It’s a fine line, but when it’s right, it’s perfect. Stop messing around with those outdated bulbs. They’re inefficient and, honestly, a bit sketchy in a wet room. Switching to a sealed IR system is a simple way to actually enjoy your bathroom again.
